Logos, wordmarks and visual marks of an American nanopore company

The corporate identity of Molecular Reality Corporation took most of its present form in 2026. In January the company drew a hexagon with the monogram "MR"; in July and August it made four colorways of a wordmark in which a double helix wraps around the words "Molecular Reality", above the line "Biology Is Just Beginning"; and from August until October its front page was a looping video of an eye with a protein emerging from the pupil.[1][2] Two characters appear wherever the logos do: Keltar, a green felt puppet with one eye, and Maxine, a small red demon. Under its first name, demonpore, inc., the company had a logo of its own, in which the letter "o" wore horns.[3]

demonpore (2014 to 2021)

Oldest of the marks is the demonpore wordmark, on a page of the company's first slide deck from about 2015. Its letters are lowercase and red. The "o" of "demon" is drawn in black with two horns on top, the "o" of "pore" is a black ring, and a trademark sign follows. Below it ran the line "mechanical nanopores for universal molecular sensing".[3] A painted poster shown in an early company video carries the same wordmark, above a second line, "Advanced scientific instruments disguised as toys™".[4] On hardware the horns survived: the lettering on the case of the demonpore 64, a nanopore reader built in the shape of a 1980s game console, gives the "o" in "demon" the same pair.[1]

Maxwell's demon gave the company its first name, and the company's cartoon of the demon, Maxine, was introduced on the same slide as "a shape-shifting trailblazer". Maxine outlived the name: she reappears in the company's games and posts of 2026, while none of its later logos has horns.[3][1]

Hexagon monogram

Hexagon logo: green interlocked M and R monogram with a small dot cluster, white MOLECULAR REALITY lettering, hexagon outline with three white node dots. Transparent PNG made for dark backgrounds.
The hexagon logo, January 2026. Its lettering is white, drawn for dark backgrounds, and on a white page only the green parts can be seen.

The hexagon logo was made in January 2026; its file is dated January 10. A neon-green hexagon outline carries white dots at three of its corners, and inside it the letters M and R are drawn as a single green monogram, with small bubbles rising from the M. The words "MOLECULAR REALITY" run beneath in outlined white capitals.[1] It heads the company's members' site, EQBio-OS. This encyclopedia's own logo, a C60 molecule drawn with three faces missing, carries a tiny "MR" on one of its twenty hexagonal faces, in the same green.[1]

An icon for the MR1 Nanopore Reader is a teal hexagon with a dark hole in the middle, and the instrument's cartridge is a stack of hexagonal plates.[1][5]

Helix wordmark

The wordmark sets "Molecular" above "Reality", with a DNA double helix wrapped around the M and the R, and the line "Biology Is Just Beginning" underneath, followed by a small "tm".[1] The wordmark was in use by December 2022; it exists in four colorways, and the image files of all four date from July and August 2026.[1]

Colorways of the helix wordmark[1]
Name Date of file "Molecular" "Reality" and helix Background
Red July 16, 2026 Red Dark grey Light
Blue-gold July 16, 2026 Blue Gold Light
Apex July 21, 2026 Pale blue-grey Green Dark
Apex red August 26, 2026 Pale grey Red Dark

The two colorways for light backgrounds:

The apex colorway is the one on the 2026 front page. It takes its name from apex, the visual theme the company adopted across its materials in July 2026: dark backgrounds, pale lettering and green current traces like those of an oscilloscope. A commit of July 21 is titled, in part, "Commit fully to Apex theme".[1]

The line under the wordmark has no fixed capitalization. The artwork reads "Biology Is Just Beginning", the text that describes the logo on the front page reads "Biology is Just Beginning", and other company documents end with "Biology is just beginning™".[2][1]

The eye

The front-page loop, August 2026. Its fallback text reads "Eye with protein emerging from pupil".

From August 19 to October 25, 2026, the company's front page was an eye. A twelve-second video loop shows an eye with a blue iris opening and a protein, a space-filling model in green and orange, emerging from the pupil; the text that describes the video for screen readers is "Eye with protein emerging from pupil". Under it is the company's sentence about the rest of the industry: "everybody's racing to build the brain, we're building the eye."[2] In the company's usage the eye stands for its sensors, and "the brain" for the artificial-intelligence companies that, in the company's view, will need what the sensors see.[1] On the day of the change, a commit to the page's code was titled "Splash: strip to logo only, top-left, half size".[6]

Iridian, a page of animated eyes on the company's website, is subtitled "197 Views of the Seeing Eye", and Keltar has had one eye from the start.[1]

Characters and icons

Keltar, the company's mascot, is "a green felt puppet with one large eye, a fanged smile, and a red ceramic mug".[7] The site's browser icon, in a file dated January 2026, is a blurred green Keltar 48 pixels wide.[1] His mug carries a small paper sign reading "M.S.S.C.", the initials of the Molecular Streaming Services Corps, which is what the company's community of volunteer scientists was called before it became the Molecular Streaming Corps.[7]

Maxine kept her red. In the company's game, Maxine's Quest, she is a red clay imp with small horns and white eyes.[1] The game has its own logo, a painting in the style of fantasy box art, made in June 2026, in which two adventurers look across a golden desert at a castle, with a blue protein ribbon floating in the sky and "EpicQuest Bio" in gold letters across the top.[1] Four neon emblems, an eye in a circuit-board mandala, an arcade cabinet woven into a double helix, a supply crate and a galaxy labeled "World Particle Project", were made for the members' site in March 2026 and are not used by its code.[1]

Trademark signs

The company applies the trademark sign generously. Phrases that have carried it in company materials include "Epic Quest Bio™", "Epic Quest Biotechnology™", "Maxine's Quest™", "demonpore 64™", "Army of Player Scientists™", "Utility-Scale Molecular Sensing™" and "Universal Molecular Streaming™", along with the two taglines above.[1][4] In the United States the sign marks a claimed trademark; the circled R is reserved for marks that have been registered. The marketing page states: "Epic Quest Bio is a trademark of Molecular Reality Corporation."[8]

In April 2026 an instruction for the website's code asked that "Epic Quest Bio™?" be made small enough to fit on one line, and that the ™ be made "much much smaller than it is now".[1]
